Bea Camacho Philippines, b. 1983

Overview

Bea Camacho was born in the Philippines in 1983. His video restlessly performs for over 11 hours in real time. The artist in the video wraps up her own body by continuously knitting like silkworms spinning a cocoon. She comfortably lies on the floor at last when she is completely wrapped. Her performance in which she creates her own haven with several skeins of red knitting wool and one needle is self-defense through severance from the outside world, not an isolation. That is probably her ‘identity’ she tries to defend from external influences. Appreciated for her talent, she has garnered numerous awards including the Richard R. Solomon Grant conferred by the Office of the Arts, Harvard University. She actively works in New York, Shanghai, and Manila.
