파브리스 이베르 France, 1961
Overview
1961년 프랑스에서 태어난 파브리스 이베르는 예술가이자 시인, 기업가로 활동하는 인물로 수학, 생물학, 물리학, 역사 등 다양한 분야를 넘나들며 자신의 예술에 적용한다. 아무 것도 없던 농경지에 수백 종의 나무 씨앗을 파종해 숲을 가꾼 목양업자였던 부모님의 영향으로 이베르는 캔버스에 자신의 생각을 그리는 것이 땅에 씨앗을 뿌리면 나무가 성장해 숲을 이루는 것과 같다고 자신의 예술 활동을 생명체의 유기적 형태에 빗대어낸다. 자유롭고 활기차며 섬세한 감성이 깃든 작업을 선보이는 이베르는 최근 2023년 루이비통 재단, 2022년 까르띠에 현대미술재단에서 개인전을 성황리에 마치며 주목받았다.
1987년 국제 이스탄불 비엔날레, 1997년 베니스 비엔날레 등에 참여했으며 특히 프랑스관 참여작가로 베니스 비엔날레에서 참여해 최연소의 나이로 황금사자상을 수상했다. 국내에서는 1995년 광주 비엔날레, 2014년 부산 비엔날레에 참여한 바 있다.

이베르의 작품은 프랑스 퐁피두 센터 (Pompidou Center), 프랑스 보르도 현대미술관 (CAPC Musée d'art Contemporain de Bordeaux), 프랑스 매그 미술관(Fondation Maeght), 벨기에 S.M.A.K (Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst), 벨기에 앤트워프 현대미술관 (M HKA), 룩셈부르크 현대미술관 (MdM), 미국 로스앤젤레스 현대미술관 (MoCA), 일본 가나자와 21세기 미술관 (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa) 등에 소장되어 있다.
