Kim Heewon korea, b. 1982
Heewon Kim studied Product Design, Woodworking and Furniture Design at Hongik University and earned a degree in Interior & Living Design from Domus Academy in Milan. He subsequently worked as a designer in the atelier of Alessandro Mendini before establishing his independent practice in 2011. Since then, Kim has developed a multidisciplinary body of work in Paris, employing the languages of photography and video to explore spatial elements such as doors, windows, traces, candles, candlesticks, chandeliers, mirrors, portraits, clocks, reflections, and shadows – objects and presences that shape and define space.
His work has been presented internationally at major institutions and fairs including Art Basel (Hong Kong, 2026), MIA Photo Fair (Milan, 2025), NOMAD CIRCLE (St. Moritz, 2025), FuoriSalone (Milan, 2009-2025), MMCA (Masquerade, Gwacheon, 2022), Chang Ucchin Museum of Art (Yangju, 2020), Porto Cervo (Sardinia, 2020), Gwangju Biennale (Bauhaus, Gwangju, 2019), Phillips Photographs London Auction (2018–2019), MMCA (Cracks in the Concrete II, Gwacheon, 2018), Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Korea Now!, Paris, 2016), PAD Paris (2015), PAD London (2014), MMCA (Another Language, Gwacheon, 2014), Venice Biennale (Architecture Arsenal 6, Venice, 2012), and Seoul National University Museum of Art (7 Fictions for Museum, Seoul, 2011), among others.
