Kim In Kyum Korea, 1945-2018
Kim In Kyum, born in Suwon in 1945, graduated from Hongik University and its postgraduate course. He participated as the representative artist for Korea at the 1995 Venice Biennale. In 1996, he became the first Korean artist to be invited to the Pompidou Centre in Paris. Until his return to Korea in 2004, he was active on the international stage. During this period, Kim Inkyum explored various sculptural experiments, establishing a concise and suggestive order in his artistic forms.
From his "Genesis" series in the 1970s to his recent works "Space-Less," Kim Inkyum has established himself as a leading figure in contemporary Korean sculpture through his relentless dedication to the essence of form and his artistic contemplation. His sustained interest in merging Korean sculptural consciousness with contemporary art has become a concept that expands his unique sculptural language. He is acclaimed for elevating sculpture, the most material of genres, to a highly spiritual state.
